There are 3 main realms of existence in this world: "Heaven" ; "Demon/Hell" ; "Limbo/Earth". Heaven is where the beings that Humans call "Angels" ; "Seraphium" ; "Cherubs"; and "God(s)", etc reside. The landscape of Heaven tends to be filled with light and warmth with a large variety of vegetation and animals. The specifics of the wildlife of Heaven is rather vague but we can assume that the writings about the Garden of Eden reveal a great deal about what Heaven might be life. The beings of Heaven itself, tend to not interfere with the beings in "Limbo" because they prefer to let human beings make their own choices and live their own lives. For a creature of Heaven to intervene on behalf of a human being is indeed a rare occurance but has been known to happen in the past with human beings found to be more than ordinary. Heaven has a blood feud of sorts with those of the Demon realm for reasons now unknown, but the beings of Heaven simply prefer to let the Demons do what they will on Earth so long as it does not interfere with the plans of Heaven.
Hell is where "Demons"; "Imps"; "Devils"; etc exist. The landscape of Hell holds an endless possiblity of terrains and temperatures as well as creatures and plants. Some of the monsters that have existed in Human folklore throughout the ages are actually pets of Demons that have broken out of their figurative "fenced yards" and have run off into the woods (Earth) to play. Demonkind also likes to take credit for creating every single type of deadly posion; every poisonous plant; toxin, etc that exists on Earth; but, many feel that this is only partially true and only a handful of plant species were introduced by demonkind from their homelands. Demons LOVE to interact with Humans and are known to frequently crossover to Earth to see what they can get Humans to do. Some demons feel that Human beings are a delicacy and will trick humans into agreeing to sacrifice themselves to the demon in exchange for favors. While others, just want to toy with the human beings for their own amusement. They also collectively feel that if Heaven got off its collective ass, the old grudges (whatever they were) would've been settled by now and they would be able to do other things then plot to overthrow Heaven or wage war with Angels... whenever they might see them.
Limbo/Earth is the realm that we know (rather, we think we do) the most about because... we're living here. The creatures that live on Earth are the most diverse and it is considered the Nexus through which all realms interconnect and interact (in other words... in order to get to Heaven from Hell, they have to come to Earth first. Think of it like a train station.) Now, humans tend to try to ignore or rationalize anything that they might not understand or simply things that they feel are out of the ordinary. Things like ghosts (which reside on Earth..); spirits (all types); faeries; monsters... all exist on Earth due to various beings from other realms stopping by for a vist or deciding to take up residence. Due to centuries of feined ignorance, current generations of humans have become "head blind" (cannot see, hear or fully interact) to the supernatural world around them or they are thought to be insane (some people are just... mentally ill, not all though.) and only a few children are gifted with the ability to fully see or hear the world around them as it really is. The trait tends to be more predominant in families that have taken up with the supernatural world in some way (i.e wishing for a baby, and the baby's future children can see ghosts) or those that have somehow forced themselves to see what is going on around them.
CONTRACTS It is very important to note that human beings interact most commonly with Demon through use of contracts. These contracts are bound by the Laws of Hell which usually state that the Demon will grant a Human a specific wish or rquest in exchange for some sort of goods or service. For a human to renig on their end of the bargain usually entitles the Demon to take the Human as their personal slave/pet/or lunch and if the Demon fails on his end he can be punished by being bound as a servant to that Human Being. Since human wishes tend to be very simplistic and vague, many loopholes exist for the Demon to give the human being a "half-wish" which tends to ultimately result in the human being's downfall, humiliation, etc. But these contracts are typically verbal BUT if the demon agrees to it - it is binding and cannot be broken... under normal circumstances. Typically, if a human being dies before the contract can be fulfilled, the terms of the contract get passed down through the family line until it is. But if no family members exist, the demon automatically gets a hold of the human's soul despite where it might be headed. Some humans try to get out of their contracts by having the demon banished from the Earth realm but many times, by interfering with a demon collecting its due you are transferring the terms of the contract to yorself. So those who do know the rules and have the power to expel the demon, tend to not interfere when they could possibly help because they feel if a person blindly makes an agreement, they should fulfil their end of the bargain. DEATH When humans die several things can happen: they are welcomed into Heaven; Hell claims another soul to torment/make into a new demon; ghosts (See entry in Beastiary) occur and they remain in Limbo... Earth; or reincarnation (they are reborn into a new body) When Demons are "killed" their energy dissipates into the air and exists as a mist in Hell until it can gather enough energy to reform itself back into a demonic being - this tends to take a very long time, even by Demon standards unless another demon assists them. NOTE: Banishment from the Earth realm is not death but a forceful displacement back into Hell that causes the Demon to be trapped in a corporal form(without a physical body) and unable to across back over to the Earth Realm until a day when all gates stand open (The Apocalypse/"Final Battle"). It is said that when an Angel dies it merely takes on a form of a lesser being we call a "Guardian Angel" and takes on the every tedious task of protecting and guiding a human being or group of human beings through their life until the day that they can return to Heaven. But this is merely conjecture, the death of an Angel has not occured since the last battle when the realms were created.
